A Tribute to Jhulan Goswami at Eden Gardens

The legendary fast bowler, Jhulan Goswami, who represented India and Bengal, is set to receive a monumental honour at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has proposed renaming the iconic 'B' Block after Goswami, celebrating her incredible achievements as the highest wicket-taker in women’s ODI cricket. The stand is expected to be officially unveiled during the India-England T20I match on January 22 next year.

This proposal, placed before the CAB’s apex committee, underscores Goswami’s unparalleled contributions to the sport.

"I never imagined something like this would come to fruition. I would definitely love to watch a match from there," Goswami said. "For any cricketer, the ultimate dream is to represent her district, state or country, but receiving an honour like this is truly monumental."

Goswami also credited the CAB for its progressive efforts to elevate women’s cricket, noting that such an accolade highlights their dedication.

Goswami’s illustrious international career speaks for itself—44 wickets in 12 Tests, a world-record 255 wickets in 204 ODIs, and 56 dismissals in 68 T20Is. Her unmatched tally of 355 wickets cements her legacy as the highest wicket-taker in women’s international cricket history.

Eden Gardens, already home to stands named after cricket legends Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, along with former BCCI presidents Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt, will now include a space celebrating one of women’s cricket’s greatest players. Goswami’s legacy, immortalised in this iconic venue, will continue to inspire generations of cricketers.
