Aakash Chopra suggests that RCB should drop Glenn Maxwell from the playing XI and recommends a replacement

According to former India batsman Aakash Chopra, Bengaluru's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell may miss his team's upcoming match against Rajasthan on April 6 due to his continued poor batting form this season.

Maxwell has scored just 31 runs in his four innings so far and has struggled with the bat since the start of IPL 2024. Bengaluru's disappointing performance in the tournament has been attributed by many to Maxwell's lack of runs. Maxwell's poor form has raised questions about his selection for the crucial match against Rajasthan Royals.

Despite becoming a fan favourite at M Chinnaswamy Stadium since being acquired by Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the IPL 2022 auction, the batter has failed to display his trademark explosiveness this season. He was dismissed for a duck in the opener against Chennai Super Kings and managed only 3 runs off 5 balls against Punjab Kings. Maxwell's only substantial knock was 28 off 19 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders. He was later dismissed for a second duck against Lucknow on April 2.

Aakash Chopra stated:

“I think Will Jacks should be a part of the playing 11. He could replace Glenn Maxwell in the next game. This could put pressure on captain Faf du Plessis since Will Jacks is an opener. I anticipate this scenario unfolding, so it will be interesting to see when Will Jacks finally gets his chance to play.”

After winning just 1 of their first 4 matches, RCB currently sits 8th on the IPL 2024 points table. The team is now focusing on their upcoming game against RR, which is an opportunity to turn their season around.
