Abhishek Sharma, who had a remarkable IPL 2024 season, has received his first international call-up for the Zimbabwe T20I series. Sharma's aggressive batting style was crucial in SRH's path to the final, where he amassed 484 runs at a striking rate of 204.22. Although he narrowly missed out on a spot in the T20 World Cup squad, he now has the opportunity to display his skills on the global stage.
Sharma shared that Shubman Gill, the captain for the Zimbabwe tour, personally informed him of his selection. He expressed his excitement and gratitude, mentioning how his family celebrated even before he arrived home. Representing India has always been Sharma's dream, and he sees this call-up as the start of his journey.
Additionally, with senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20Is, the torch is being passed to the younger generation. The series against Zimbabwe will begin on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, with all five matches taking place at the same venue and concluding on July 14.
