The tournament aims to be held biennially to prepare Asian teams for the Under-19 World Cup.
Following the successful inaugural Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup last year, a significant new event is joining the women's junior cricket roster. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially announced the creation of the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup, which will be organised every two years to assist Asian teams in their preparations for the Under-19 World Cup.
The ACC revealed the tournament's launch during its executive board meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
Sources from ESPNcricinfo indicate that the first edition of the tournament is scheduled for mid-December 2024, ahead of the Under-19 T20 World Cup taking place in Malaysia in January-February 2025. Details regarding the venue and the number of participating teams for the 2024 Asia Cup are still under discussion.
“This is a landmark day for cricket in Asia,” said ACC president Jay Shah. “The Women’s U-19 Asia Cup represents a significant step forward, creating an essential platform for young female cricketers to hone their skills and display their talents.
“This initiative is a vital support for the future of women's cricket in Asia, and we are excited about the lasting impact it will have, not only within our member nations but also on the global cricket community.”
