Days before the match, Faf opened up about his admiration for Dhoni. Faf joined CSK in 2012 and has a contract with the Yellow Army until 2021. The South African opener played 92 matches for CSK and scored 2700 runs. RCB added him to their squad after Du Plessis was released by the team ahead of the 2022 mega auction.
He said:
“I am thankful to MS Dhoni for teaching me the skills and qualities of a leader. He is like my big brother. You want to beat him, but in reality, you don’t want that to happen because there is so much respect for him.”
