Akash Deep Stays Grounded Amid Border-Gavaskar Trophy Hopes

Indian pacer Akash Deep is staying grounded and focused on his current performance, refusing to let the possibility of a Border-Gavaskar Trophy selection affect him. Despite rising expectations following his impressive Test debut earlier this year, Akash is keeping his attention firmly on the ongoing series against Bangladesh, emphasising the importance of staying present.

During a pre-match press conference ahead of the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh, Akash Deep shared his mindset, explaining that he avoids thinking too far ahead, especially about the upcoming Australia series. "When we play at this level, it's important not to overthink or get distracted by future opportunities. I don't put pressure on myself about needing to go to Australia. I live in the present, and that's what keeps things simple for me," Akash stated.

After an impressive 2/19 spell in the first Test, Akash remains committed to performing in the current series. He reflected on his journey over the past two years, having played in numerous domestic tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Cup, which helped him understand his strengths and evolve as a player.

At 27, Akash Deep has already caught the attention of fans and former cricketers, many of whom consider him a strong contender for India's pace attack in the highly anticipated Australia Tests. However, despite the growing buzz, Akash remains calm and focused, determined to continue working hard without letting external expectations interfere with his game.

With his consistent performances and ability to deliver under pressure, Akash Deep is emerging as one of India's promising pacers. Whether or not he joins the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and a potentially returning Mohammed Shami for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Akash's work ethic and focus are setting him apart as a key player in India's cricket future.
