Anderson to become an England fast-bowling mentor

James Anderson, the England cricket legend, showcased his enduring brilliance by taking seven wickets for Lancashire in a recent County Championship match against Nottinghamshire. Playing his first Championship game in over a year, Anderson's figures of 7-35 were the best in this season's Championship, bowling out Nottinghamshire for 126 in response to Lancashire's 353-9 declared.

This exceptional performance marked Anderson's 55th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. At 41 years old, his skill and fitness were on full display, particularly in his phenomenal 10-over opening spell where he took 6-19. This performance highlighted his ability to generate extra zip and bounce off the wicket, alongside his precise seam movement.

Australia's Nathan Lyon, who also achieved a milestone by taking his 800th first-class wicket during the match, praised Anderson's display. Lyon expressed admiration for Anderson's class and skills, noting his ability to seam the ball both ways and his consistent quality over the years.

Looking ahead, Anderson's upcoming Test at Lord's will be his 188th, marking the end of his illustrious international career. Despite being the first seamer and third overall to claim 700 Test wickets, Anderson has decided to retire from Test cricket after the series opener against the West Indies. Following his retirement, Anderson is set to transition into a mentoring role for England's fast bowlers, although his future in county cricket remains uncertain.

Lyon expressed surprise at England's decision to move on from Anderson, considering him possibly the best fast bowler ever in the game, particularly noting his remarkable skill set in English conditions.
