With Greg Barclay announcing his decision to step down, Jay Shah is now favoured to succeed him as Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), creating a vacancy at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), has refuted claims that he is in line to become the new BCCI secretary if Jay Shah is appointed as ICC Chairman. Reports have suggested that Shah, currently serving as BCCI secretary, is a leading candidate for the ICC position following Barclay's choice not to pursue a new term.
Last week, Greg Barclay officially informed the ICC board of his intention to step down as ICC chairperson when his term ends in November. Barclay, who was first appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, was re-elected unopposed in 2022.
With Barclay's exit, Shah has emerged as the most prominent contender to take over as ICC Chairman, following his successful tenures at the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). As Shah’s term concludes, and he enters a cooling-off period, speculation suggests he could take on the ICC role, potentially paving the way for Jaitley to step in at the BCCI.
However, Jaitley made it clear on Monday that he would not be assuming any BCCI roles. Instead, he emphasised his commitment to enhancing the popularity of the league.
