BCCI announces tournament awards
In a significant move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced prize money for player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament awards across all women’s and junior domestic cricket competitions. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced on social media, highlighting that the initiative aims to reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit.
In men’s cricket, prize money will also be introduced for player-of-the-match awards in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shah expressed gratitude to the Apex Council for their support in this initiative, stating, “This initiative aims to recognise and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind.”
Last year, the BCCI increased prize money for several domestic tournaments. The Ranji Trophy winners now receive a substantial cash reward of ₹5 crore, while the Irani Cup prize money was doubled, with winners receiving ₹50 lakh and runners-up ₹25 lakh. In the Duleep Trophy, champions receive ₹1 crore, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy winners also get ₹1 crore, with the runners-up receiving ₹50 lakh.
