BCCI has penalised Shreyas Iyer, the captain of KKR
Shreyas Iyer has been fined INR 12 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his team's slow over rate during their IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday. Captains are responsible for their team's first over rate offence as per the IPL Code of Conduct.
The BCCI has issued an official statement stating that Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, was fined for his team's slow over rate during their Indian Premier League match against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17, 2024.
“Since this was KKR’s first offence this season, Shreyas Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh for not meeting the minimum over rate requirements as per the IPL’s Code of Conduct.”
Despite being one fielder short outside the thirty-yard circle in the final over due to a slow over rate, KKR almost won the match against RR. However, Jos Buttler's 107 not out off 60 balls led RR to victory as he hit the winning runs off the last ball. After a slow start, Buttler picked up the pace brilliantly to put Rajasthan in front of the hosts. For the Sanju Samson-led franchise, he single-handedly won the match.
RR completed one of the joint-highest successful run chases in IPL history by defeating KKR, thereby strengthening their position in the points table. Although KKR led for most of the match, RR needed 96 runs in the last six overs. Buttler, who was an impact substitute, produced a heroic performance to snatch victory from KKR's grasp. The England white-ball captain, who was absent from RR's previous match due to injury, smashed nine fours and six sixes.
