The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant for the franchise's third slow over-rate offence. DC failed to complete their overs in the allotted time against Rajasthan Royals. Pant was fined INR 30 lakh from his match fee.
The rest of the Delhi players in the match against Rajasthan, including the impact player, have been fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is less.
He will miss Delhi's next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 12 May in the 17th edition of the IPL. His suspension will affect Delhi's play-off chances as they need to win their remaining two matches to have a chance of making the next round. He has been one of their best performers this season.
DC has appealed against the referee's decision. The appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman, who conducted a virtual hearing and decided to rule against the franchise and its captain.
The left-hander has already been fined INR 12 lakh and INR 24 lakh for the first two slow overs.
The first offence took place during the DC vs CSK match in Vizag. Pant was fined INR 12 lakh.
The second offence took place against Kolkata Knight Riders.
