Brad Hogg has endorsed Dhruv Jurel as the wicket-keeper for the Test team. He believes that India should persist with the youngster even if Pant returns to the team. Hogg added that Pant should not be rushed into the squad and should play domestic cricket before returning to red-ball matches.
Jurel has been outstanding for India since his debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot. He won the Player of the Match award in Ranchi for playing two match-winning innings. On the other hand, Pant is nearing his return and will be seen in action for Delhi Capitals in the 2024 Indian Premier League:
“I think India will persist with Jurel and not call up Pant quickly. I think Pant should go back to domestic cricket before playing Test matches for India, His body has to survive the five-day format and also it should be checked whether he has the same reflexes while batting which he had before the accident.”
KS Bharat was given a chance in the first two Tests, but his failures led to Jurel's debut. In the fourth game, Bharat scored 46 runs in the first innings, while Jurel registered scores of 90 and 39 not out across both innings.
