Brad Wheal thinks Scotland's victory over England can give them confidence
Scotland hopes to pull off another massive victory over the world champs.
Brad Wheal believes that before their historic T20 World Cup matchup in Barbados, Scotland can learn from their renowned ODI victory over England six years ago.
With their first-ever T20 match on Tuesday, the sporting rivalry between the two nearby nations will resume, with Scotland hoping to pull off another massive shock over the world champions.
Wheal suffered a stress fracture to his back a few days before the high-scoring Edinburgh epic, therefore he was forced to miss the most incredible day in Scottish cricket history in 2018.
However, Wheal is confident that his country won't be intimidated because several players from both teams who were involved in Scotland's six-run victory are expected to play in their Group B opener at Bridgetown's Kensington Oval.
Even though there aren't many bilateral matches against elite opposition, Scotland has proven to be a formidable force on the international scene, defeating the West Indies and Bangladesh in the last two T20 World Cups.
Scotland's net run rate in the qualifier prevented them from competing in the 50-over World Cup last year, but Wheal, who will be relied upon to produce new-ball wickets in the Caribbean, believes they are still improving.
Due to his obligations to Scotland, Wheal will miss the first few Vitality Blast matches. In 2023, he missed a significant portion of the summer due to a third stress fracture in his back, which is a frequent injury for pacemen.
Wheal's spirits were raised during the dark times by thinking back to how crucial he was to Hampshire's 2022 victory, taking 22 wickets in 13 matches, and by the prospect of playing in more Utilita Bowl competitions with the club.
