Bumrah names the 29-year-old batsman he does not want to face in the 2024 edition of the IPL
After Mumbai Indians' (MI) first win of the season, pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah praised the batting of teammate Romario Shepherd. Bumrah was elated after the win over Delhi Capitals.
Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians recorded their first win under new captain Hardik Pandya by beating Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. All-rounder Romario Shepherd was named Player of the Match for his instrumental role in securing the win.
After Hardik Pandya's dismissal in the 18th over, Romario Shepherd came to the crease. Shepherd shared a partnership of 53 runs off just 13 balls for the sixth wicket. Shepherd remained on 39 not out of 10 balls. There were three boundaries and four sixes in his exhilarating knock.
Shepherd unleashed an onslaught in the final over against Anrich Nortje, smashing 32 runs. He began with a commanding boundary down the ground, then hit the next three deliveries for sixes. Shepherd hit another boundary off the fifth ball of the over before smashing the last ball of the over for another massive six.
Head coach Mark Boucher presented the award to Jasprit Bumrah in a video shared by MI on Twitter (X). Bumrah joked that he didn't want to bowl to Romario Shepherd when he was at the top of his game, as his teammates applauded:
“It was really great to get the win; the atmosphere was also very energetic. Our team was feeling refreshed after the break. I’m really happy. Special shout-out to Romario Shepherd – it was wonderful to see him finish the game so strongly. I’m glad I didn’t have to bowl to him.”
Jasprit Bumrah displayed his bowling mastery for Mumbai Indians, taking two crucial wickets while conceding just 22 runs in four overs. It was Bumrah's 150th IPL wicket for MI, becoming the first Indian bowler to reach the milestone for a franchise.
