Chennai Super Kings' Tushar Deshpande makes history by scoring a record-breaking century at No.11

CSK's star bowler Tushar Deshpande, who was the Men in Yellow's leading wicket-taker in the 2023 IPL, showed his batting prowess in the ongoing Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda, scoring a century for Mumbai at No 11.

In the ongoing Ranji quarter-finals, Mumbai batted first and posted 384 runs. In reply, Baroda fell 36 runs short and was restricted to 348 all out. In the second innings, Mumbai was 337/9 with Baroda chasing a 400-run target, but Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian changed the complexion of the match.

Tanush, batting at 10 and Deshpande at 11, put on a 232-run stand for the last wicket. Tanush scored an unbeaten 120 off 129 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Tushar's 123 off 129 included 10 fours and eight sixes.

The 232-run stand is the second-highest partnership for the last wicket in Ranji Trophy history. The duo fell just one run short of the record as Chandu Sarwate and Shute Banerjee became the first to score first-class centuries at 10 and 11 in the same innings. Sarwate and Banerjee achieved the feat in a match between Surrey and India at The Oval in 1946.Tushar also broke the record for the highest score by an Indian batting at No. 11 in first-class cricket. He broke Shute Banerjee's record of 121 against Surrey in 1946.
