In a thrilling T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against the United States in Barbados on Sunday, England's seamer Chris Jordan etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Englishman to record a T20 International (T20I) hat-trick. Jordan's hat-trick is the third of the ongoing T20 World Cup, following two hat-tricks by Australia's Pat Cummins in successive games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Super 8s.
Jordan's remarkable achievement came during the 19th over of the US innings. He started his sensational over by dismissing Corey Anderson. After a dot delivery, Jordan cleaned up Ali Khan, trapped Nosthush Kenjige leg-before, and then castled Saurabh Netravalkar to complete his hat-trick. Jordan finished the over with another wicket, making it four in total.
The United States experienced a dramatic collapse, losing five wickets in just six deliveries and going from 115 for five to being all out for the same score. This dramatic turn of events is only the third instance in men's T20I history where five wickets have fallen at the same score.
Jordan's accomplishment also places him in an elite group, as he becomes only the second bowler after Ireland's Curtis Campher to record four wickets in an over in T20 World Cup history. This extraordinary performance not only highlights Jordan's skill and precision but also cements his status as a key player for England in the tournament.
