A metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai has directed the police to investigate allegations made by social media influencer Sapna Gill that she was molested by a Delhi Capitals and India cricketer at a pub last year. Additional metropolitan magistrate SC Tayde passed the order after hearing Sapna's complaint. The police report must be submitted by June 19.
Gill had lodged a complaint seeking the registration of an FIR against the cricketer. She requested that sections 354, 509, and 324 of the Indian Penal Code were invoked against the opening batter and his friend Ashish for assaulting her with a bat in 2023.
Sapna Gill initially approached the airport police station in Andheri to file a complaint but had to resort to legal action when the police refused to listen.
The police had previously informed the court that Shaw had not committed any crime, as the CCTV footage obtained by the police did not support Sapna's allegations against the cricketer. It is worth noting that Sapna and her friend Shobit Thakur were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Thakur had attempted to record a video with Shaw, but the cricketer declined.
The police have stated that none of the witnesses present at the pub reported any inappropriate touching of Sapna by Prithvi or his friend. The CCTV footage from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower shows that Sapna was chasing Prithvi's car with a baseball bat in hand and even struck the windshield of the cricketer's car.
Additionally, a statement from a CISF official confirms that no such incident occurred as claimed by the social media influencer.
In February 2023, Gill and her friends were arrested for assaulting Prithvi Shaw following an argument over selfies at a pub.
