Tom Moody, former Australia all-rounder and coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has claimed that Rohit Sharma's removal from Mumbai Indians' captaincy will not affect his batting in the Indian Premier League 2024. Rohit was sacked from the leadership role by the five-time champions, and Hardik was given the captain's armband.
Hardik, who left MI in 2022, was with Gujarat Titans for two seasons before returning to his previous team for the upcoming season. He was then appointed as the team's captain.
Moody believes that Rohit is a formidable batsman with the ability to score runs.
Moody told Star Sports:
“Captaincy removal will not change his batting. He has shown the amount of destruction he can cause with the bat in the past and will once again be MI’s top player. He has done well in the league, and I once again, expect him to repeat in the new season.”
Tom believes that Hardik will have a significant workload as Mumbai is vastly different from Gujarat Titans, and the team demands excellence from its players.
Mumbai's top officials have denied allegations of mistreatment towards Rohit. They stated that the franchise was considering the future and made the decision with the road ahead in mind.
