“I am not next MS Dhoni”
India's young wicket-keeper, Dhruv Jurel, has played down comparisons with MS Dhoni. The comparison between the two players began when former India player Sunil Gavaskar saw similarities between the two during a Test match against England.
When asked about the comparison between himself and the greatest Indian captain, Jurel stated that he admires Dhoni's approach but prefers to maintain his own style. The right-handed batter also acknowledged Dhoni's status as a legend:
“Thank you Gavaskar sir for comparing me with MS Dhoni. But I can’t be Dhoni as nobody can achieve what he did in his career for India. There will always be one MS Dhoni. I want to be just Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I want to do, I want to do it as Dhruv Jurel.”
The young batsman also revealed that his WhatsApp display picture is of Dhoni.
Dhruv scored 46 in the first innings to make his Test debut in the third match at Rajkot. He was named player of the match for his 90 not out and 39 not out in the fourth match.
Jurel now has a contract with Rajasthan Royals for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. There is a possibility of him travelling to the West Indies and USA for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 if he performs well for the franchise.
