Dhruv Jurel: "I believe in taking one day at a time."

Indian wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel had an impressive performance during the Test series against England in early 2024, accumulating 190 runs in four innings across three Tests. However, with India set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, Jurel’s position in the squad remains uncertain. Rishabh Pant’s strong showing in the T20 World Cup 2024 and his inclusion in the Duleep Trophy have cemented his place, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are also competing for spots. Despite the competition, Jurel remains calm and focused, emphasising his approach of taking things one day at a time.

“I believe in taking one day at a time. I don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on myself regarding what will happen. Right now, I’m focused on playing each match well, which also serves as good practice. My focus is solely on that,” Jurel told Sports Tak.

In other news, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has stated that a decision on Mohammed Shami's participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year will be made based on the report from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Shami is making significant progress in his recovery from an ankle injury sustained during the ODI World Cup last November. He is expected to be ready for India’s home season, beginning with the Test series against Bangladesh in September. Currently, Shami is in the final stages of rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru, having resumed bowling last month without experiencing pain.

Shah mentioned to ANI, “Whether Shami will participate in the Australia series depends on his fitness. We will decide after reviewing the NCA report.”

Before India toured Sri Lanka in July, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had noted that Shami had resumed bowling and that the first Test against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai, was the target for his return.
