Yash Dhull, who led India to victory in the 2022 U-19 World Cup, has made his return to competitive cricket following a minor heart surgery. Surprisingly, a small hole in Dhull's heart, typically a congenital defect, was only discovered during routine scans at the NCA in June-July.
Dhull's long-time coach, Rajesh Nagar, shared that the young cricketer underwent surgery in early July and recovered in 10 to 15 days. Though not yet at his peak, Dhull is currently playing at about 80 percent of his capacity, according to Nagar.
Now representing Central Delhi Kings in the inaugural Delhi Premier League, the 21-year-old batter has scored 93 runs in five innings, with a strike rate of 113.41 and a top score of 52.
Dhull's cricket journey has already seen significant highs and lows. He was heralded as a future star after leading India to the U-19 World Cup title and scoring twin centuries on his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in February 2022. However, his form and internal team politics led to his removal as Delhi's Ranji captain earlier this year after a loss to Puducherry in the 2024 season opener.
While Dhull has also represented India A, concerns about his technique have kept him off the selectors' radar. In the IPL, he has had limited opportunities, appearing in just four matches for Delhi Capitals.
