While Rohit has not yet confirmed his participation, he recently told the media he remains undecided, saying, "Right now, I am not too sure whether I'll be going, but let's see. Fingers crossed."
Gavaskar voiced his concern that Rohit’s potential absence could impact team morale and continuity. Speaking with India Today, Gavaskar explained that designating Bumrah as captain for the full tour would ensure stability. He emphasised the importance of starting an overseas series with a stable captaincy, especially after India’s recent 3-0 home loss to New Zealand. He noted that a captain’s absence in the opener puts undue pressure on the vice-captain, and clear leadership is essential in light of recent setbacks.
