Harmanpreet may become as an India's Women’s Cricket Captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to evaluate the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur following the Indian women's team's disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup in the UAE. In a significant first, the team, under Kaur’s captaincy, failed to reach the knockout stage, extending their wait for ICC tournament success.

Sources indicate that a meeting is scheduled soon between the BCCI, the selection committee, and head coach Amol Muzumdar to deliberate on Kaur's future. This discussion will precede the selection of the squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting October 24. Kaur has captained the T20 side since 2016, and while she led the team to numerous knockout stages—including the finals in 2020—recent performances have raised concerns.

Despite a robust lineup, India's campaign faltered with an opening match loss to New Zealand, leading to their eventual elimination by Australia. While Kaur’s position within the team is solid, suggestions indicate a potential shift in leadership, as the BCCI feels a new captain could foster a transition before the 50-over World Cup in India.
