Who the hell is Asha Shobana? An RCB bowler that took a Fifer against UP Warriorz

Asha Shobana made a name for herself in the WPL 2024 by delivering an outstanding bowling performance against UP Warriorz.

She took five wickets against UP Warriorz and played a significant role in RCB's victory. Smriti Mandhana and her team started the season with a win.

Asha Shobana's spell of 5 for 22 in four overs was instrumental in RCB's victory. She took the crucial wickets of Vrinda Dinesh and Tahlia McGrath early on and then claimed three more wickets in her final over to dash UP's hopes. Her victims included Shweta Sehrawat, Grace Harris, and Kiran Navgire.

Who is she?

Asha Shobana, also known as Shobhana Asha, is an Indian cricketer who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the WPL. She has also represented Kerala, Puducherry, and Railways in domestic cricket.

A leg spinner and middle-order batter, Asha Shobana began her cricket journey at the age of 13, playing for Trivandrum and later for the senior team. Born in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, she was inspired to play cricket after watching Sachin Tendulkar's innings against Australia, where he went after Shane Warne in Sharjah in 1998. Her introduction to women's cricket was through watching Neetu David bowl for the Indian women's team.

Her favourite cricketer is Stuart MacGill, who played as a right-arm leg spinner and right-handed batsman. She has not yet made her debut for India, but may get the opportunity if she continues in the same fashion.

Asha Shobana's performance in the WPL 2024

Asha Shobana played five matches for RCB in WPL 2023, taking five wickets. She has started WPL 2024 in superb style, with a fifer against Warriorz. Despite her humble background and her father's profession as a driver, she persevered and has now showcased her prowess on the WPL stage. In addition to cricket, she has a passion for pencil sketching, singing, and digital painting.
