ICC Launches Social Media Moderation Tool to Protect Players and Fans

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has implemented a social media moderation tool for the Women's T20 World Cup to safeguard the cricket community from harmful online content and create a more inclusive environment. This initiative, aimed at protecting players and fans, comes as the tournament kicks off in Sharjah, with the final scheduled for October 20 in Dubai.

In collaboration with GoBubble, the ICC's AI-powered tool monitors toxic content such as hate speech and harassment on official and player social media channels. The goal is to ensure mental well-being and promote positivity. Finn Bradshaw, ICC's head of digital, emphasised the importance of fostering an inclusive environment, noting that over 60 players have already signed up for the protection service.

South African cricketer Sinalo Jafta highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, "There’s nothing worse than checking your phone after a game, whether a win or loss, and encountering negative comments. This protection allows players to share their lives without fear of judgement or criticism."

The ICC hopes this tool will encourage a healthier online culture for athletes and fans alike.
