ICC won't force India to play 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan

India will not be forced to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy by the International Cricket Council (ICC). After the ICC awarded Pakistan the hosting rights, the 50-over global event will be played in the neighbouring country. However, the BCCI will not be sending the Men in Blue to Pakistan due to political tensions between the two countries.

Recently, an ICC Board member suggested that the apex body of international cricket could consider organizing the 2025 Champions Trophy in a hybrid model. The Asia Cup 2023 was held in a hybrid format due to India's refusal to play in Pakistan. As a result, nine out of the 13 games were relocated from Pakistan to Sri Lanka.

The ICC hosted Team India's matches and the knockouts in the UAE. The eight teams were divided into two groups.

A member of the ICC board recently disclosed that the governing body cannot exert pressure on any country to act against its government.

Since 2013, when the two nations last played against each other, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series. Pakistan visited India for the 2016 T20 and the 2023 ODI World Cup, while India travelled to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008.

BCCI President Roger Binny and Vice-President Rajiv Shukla attended a game in the Asia Cup in 2023.
