ICC's Contingency Plan for India vs Pakistan match

The ICC is grappling with a potential stalemate over the Champions Trophy, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) eager to host the entire tournament domestically, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reluctant to send Team India across the border. The BCCI has proposed that India's matches be played in either the UAE or Sri Lanka, whereas Pakistan has suggested that all of India's games be held in Lahore. With no resolution in sight, the ICC has reportedly devised a contingency plan if India opts not to travel to Pakistan.

Although the ICC has not publicly addressed the situation with other boards recently, a backup plan is in place. According to Cricbuzz, the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) has reviewed the scenario, noting: "The PCB has signed the Host Agreement and developed an event budget, which has been submitted for approval. The management has also estimated the additional costs if some matches need to be played outside Pakistan."

The CEC's note also highlighted that a planning meeting and venue inspections occurred in March 2024, with substantial renovations underway at all three proposed venues.

The budget allocation for the Champions Trophy includes $35 million for the tournament, $20 million for participation and prize money, and an additional $10 million for production costs related to broadcasting the 15-match, 20-day event.

The ICC has circulated a draft schedule to stakeholders, including broadcasters and participating teams. According to this draft, all of India's matches are planned for Lahore, with the marquee India-Pakistan clash scheduled for Saturday, March 1.
