During the Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings match in Vizag on March 31, Rishabh Pant executed a no-look run-out in the second innings, emulating his idol MS Dhoni. Pant's Dhoni-esque run-out captivated fans, and he led his team to victory over CSK.
The DC skipper attempted to run out the in-form Ajinkya Rahane using MS Dhoni's signature move. Pant effortlessly caught the ball with one hand and threw it to the stumps without looking, similar to Dhoni's technique.
Pant, standing close to the stumps, casually picked up the ball at a point and threw it back. The stumps were dislodged. Ajinkya Rahane saved himself from being run out with a full-stretch dive.
This manoeuvre was popularised by Dhoni while playing for the Indian cricket team and CSK in the IPL. The legendary wicketkeeper would deftly guide the ball onto the stumps, demonstrating his keen awareness of the game.
Pant, making his comeback after a 15-month absence, scored 51 off 32. He took DC to 191/5. The wicketkeeper recovered from a life-threatening road accident in December 2022.
