India A triumphs over India D

In a standout performance during the second round of the Duleep Trophy, veteran all-rounder Shams Mulani was named Player of the Match for his exceptional contributions with both bat and ball. On September 15, Mulani played a pivotal role in India A’s commanding 186-run victory over India D.

Mulani's all-round display was crucial in securing the win. He scored 89 runs in the first innings and claimed four wickets across both innings, showcasing his versatility and skill. Reflecting on his performance, Mulani attributed his success to his extensive domestic experience, which helped him adapt to the challenging conditions in Anantapur.

"It was tough with the heat, but I’m accustomed to it from my domestic matches. I focused on maintaining discipline while batting. The wicket was becoming slower, and one or two balls were gripping. Following the advice from the captain and coach to bowl in consistent areas proved beneficial," Mulani said post-match.

Despite a resilient century from Ricky Bhui, who scored 113 off 195 balls, India D fell short of the mammoth target of 488 runs, being dismissed for 301 in their final innings. The lack of support for Bhui from his teammates and consistent breakthroughs by India A’s bowlers, including Mulani and Tanus Kotian, who took 4/33 and 4/73 respectively, led to India D’s downfall.

Earlier, India A had established a strong position with substantial contributions from Pratham Singh and Tilak Varma. Singh’s 112 off 189 balls and Varma’s unbeaten 111 off 193 deliveries set a formidable target for India D, who were unable to cope with the pressure from India A’s bowlers.
