India have announced their T20I squad for the Bangladesh series, with two WPL stars getting their first call-ups

Asha Sobhana and Sajana Sajeevan, who both performed impressively in the 2024 Women’s Premier League, have been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh starting on April 28.

Sobhana made history by becoming the first Indian cricketer to achieve a five-wicket haul in the WPL, recording figures of 5/22 against UP Warriorz.

She finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the league, alongside Australian star Sophie Molineux, with 12 wickets in 10 matches.

In the opening game of the WPL 2024, Sajeevan made her debut and announced herself to the world by smashing a six off the last ball to win the game for her Mumbai Indians side against Delhi Capitals.

Playing lower down the order, she scored 87 runs at a brisk pace of 158.18, which was the second-best strike rate of the tournament.

The 16-member team will be led by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy.

The series begins on 28 April, with all five games to be played in Sylhet.

This series is crucial for both teams as they prepare for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in Bangladesh later this year.

India squad:
Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sajana Sajeevan, Richa Ghosh, Yastika Bhatia, Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Amanjot Kaur, Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh Thakur, Titas Sadhu.
