Jayasuriya reflected on the historic win over India

Interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya was elated after Sri Lanka's 2-0 series win over India in the three-match ODI series. On Wednesday, Sri Lanka secured a commanding 110-run victory in the third ODI at R Premadasa Stadium, marking their first international series win against India in 27 years.

In the third ODI, Sri Lanka delivered a stellar performance, dismissing India for 138 in just 26.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage, a former U19 captain in the 2022 World Cup, took five crucial wickets.

Jayasuriya reflected on the historic win, saying, “It’s been a long wait since our last series win against India in 1997, where I also played and scored well. After 27 years, I’m thrilled to be part of this team. They are a talented group, and today’s performance showcased our abilities to the whole country.”

He also highlighted the team's resilience following their T20I series loss. “The boys faced a tough time, and despite playing well in the T20 series, the results weren’t in our favour. However, the players analysed their mistakes and improved their performance upon returning to Colombo,” Jayasuriya added.

In the third ODI, Avishka Fernando anchored the innings with a knock of 96 off 102 balls, supported by Kusal Mendis’s 59. Following their solid contributions, Wellalage made a decisive impact with the ball.
