Jos Buttler scored a magnificent century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 Indian Premier League. He completed his sixth IPL century with a six on the first ball of the 19th over while chasing 184.
His century came off 58 balls, including nine fours and four sixes, as RR won the game by six wickets to register their fourth win of the season.
In the final over of the run chase, RR needed only one run to win, while Buttler was six runs short of his century. Cameron Green bowled a short ball, and Buttler pulled it over the deep midwicket boundary for a match-winning shot.
Before the start of the over, Buttler had a conversation with Shimron Hetmyer. As soon as Buttler hit the six, Hetmyer celebrated wildly, which surprised many.
After the match, the England player revealed that the West Indies batter suggested he hit a six on the first ball of the 20th over to complete his century:
“I think Hety’s celebration was better than the shot. He is the one who told me to go for a six to register a hundred in IPL 2024.”
Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 113 runs off 72 balls, including 12 fours and four sixes, as RCB posted 183/3 in 20 overs. Chahal took two wickets for RR. Virat holds the Orange Cap, while the Purple Cap is held by Chahal.
