Kohli had commented about Rohit’s tendency to forget essential items

Virat Kohli’s old remark about Rohit Sharma’s forgetfulness has resurfaced with a new perspective, thanks to former India batting coach Vikram Rathour. Kohli had humorously commented a few years ago about Rohit’s tendency to forget essential items like his iPad, wallet, and even his passport. The video of Kohli discussing Rohit’s forgetfulness in an episode of *Breakfast with Champions* went viral and continues to be shared on social media.

Recently, Rohit’s forgetfulness was again on display when he appeared confused about the number of bags he had at the Mumbai airport after a vacation. Instances like forgetting his decision at the toss during the ODI World Cup and keeping the coin in his pocket during another match have also become part of this narrative.

However, Vikram Rathour, during a podcast titled *Find a Way with Taruwar Kohli,* offered a different angle, emphasising that while Rohit might be forgetful with day-to-day items, he never forgets the crucial game plans. Rathour praised Rohit as a "shrewd tactician" who is deeply involved in team strategies, both for batting and bowling. He highlighted Rohit’s active participation in team meetings and his investment in understanding players' perspectives, describing him as a true "player’s captain."

Rathour further reinforced his point by recalling a key moment in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa on June 29. Rohit’s decision to use Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs proved decisive, as Bumrah’s economical spell helped India secure the title. Despite initial doubts about the move, Rathour explained that Rohit’s tactical acumen often surprises even the coaching staff, and his strategies tend to make sense in hindsight.

This balanced perspective from Rathour gives Kohli’s lighthearted comments a new context, showcasing Rohit’s strengths as a captain while acknowledging his quirky forgetfulness.
