Labuschagne Comments on Kohli's Drop in Intensity

Australian batting star Marnus Labuschagne recently remarked that Virat Kohli's trademark intensity has lessened over time, especially since his captaincy days. Known for his aggressive style on the field, Kohli led India to historic success, including the team’s first Test series win in Australia during the 2018-19 tour. Kohli’s personal record against Australia is impressive, with 2042 runs in 25 Tests at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. However, Labuschagne, who debuted in 2018, observed a shift in Kohli's demeanour.

“My first memory of Virat was during the 2018 series, when he was leading India with real intensity,” Labuschagne told Star Sports. “It was an intense series, and I haven’t seen that same level from him since. He’s still a quality player, but my earliest impression was of that fierce competitive spirit.”

Recent statistics reflect Kohli’s struggles. In five Tests, he has scored only 192 runs at an average of 21.33, managing just one fifty. This year, his overall average has dipped to 22.72 in Test cricket, with no centuries.

India’s recent 0-3 series loss to New Zealand has also impacted their World Test Championship Final chances. India now faces a daunting task in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, needing a 4-0 series sweep in Australia to secure a direct qualification. The much-anticipated series begins on November 22 in Perth, where Kohli's experience and adaptability will be crucial.
