Michael Clarke agrees with MS Dhoni and rejects Brett Lee's idea
Michael Clarke, the former Australian captain, disagrees with the idea of MS Dhoni batting higher up the order, even after the ex-CSK skipper’s explosive batting against DC in an IPL 2024 match. Clarke believes that Dhoni will continue to bat at number eight and will only consider promoting himself if the game is on the line. Though Dhoni's quickfire 37 not out at number eight was not enough to win, some fans argue that CSK could have been successful had he batted higher.
Clarke, speaking to Star Sports, said:
“I believe Dhoni should stick to his batting position, despite fans wishing to see him bat earlier. Now that he has stepped down from the captaincy, he seems content with remaining lower in the lineup. However, if the game situation demands it, I am confident Dhoni would readily bat higher for the good of the team.”
During the 20th over against Delhi, Dhoni played a short but powerful innings that included a thunderous six over extra cover, followed by a stunning one-handed maximum smacked mid-wicket.
Earlier, Brett Lee had requested that Ruturaj Gaikwad promote Dhoni in the batting order.
The legendary wicketkeeper underwent knee surgery after the previous IPL season and has since been focused on his return in the current season.
