Michael Vaughan picks Virat Kohli ahead of Rohit Sharma to win the orange cap for the 2024 IPL

IPL 2024 kicked off on 22 March with CSK taking on RCB in the opening match at Chepauk. Ahead of the tournament, former England captain Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to share what he predicted. He initially tipped Punjab Kings' Liam Livingstone as his top run-scorer but had doubts about how he would perform in Indian conditions. After some thought, Vaughan named RCB's Virat Kohli as his pick for the leading run-scorer in the 2024 IPL.

Vaughan also made a bold statement about Rohit Sharma, suggesting that the former MI captain was set to have the highest strike rate of the tournament. However, due to the favourable batting conditions in Bengaluru, he felt that Kohli would emerge as the leading run-scorer.

Former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist disagreed with Vaughan, favouring Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals as the top run-scorer and backing him to have the highest strike rate. Despite Gilchrist's disagreement, Vaughan stuck with his prediction for Kohli.

Jaiswal's recent form has been impressive, including two double centuries in the Test series against England, for which he was named player of the series. Ollie Silverton selected Liam Livingstone as the leading run-scorer.

The tournament's leading wicket-taker was also debated by the panellists. Vaughan chose Kuldeep Yadav from Delhi Capitals, while Gilchrist backed Mitchell Starc, the IPL's most expensive player, for this title.

Both Vaughan and Gilchrist backed MI, led by Hardik Pandya, to win their sixth IPL title when asked about the winner of IPL 2024.
