MS Dhoni to declare retirement from the Indian Premier League

It is expected that MS Dhoni, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings, will retire from the Indian Premier League after the upcoming season concludes. Although Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, he continued to lead CSK. However, a day before the start of the 17th season of the tournament, he recently decided to hand over the reins to opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. The defending champions took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai on March 22.

CSK and Dhoni have a long-standing association, and the veteran will likely continue to be associated with the team in some capacity even after retirement.

In 2022, CSK had given the captain's armband to Ravindra Jadeja, but after eight games, it was given back to Dhoni as Jadeja was unable to perform the duties effectively.

The 42-year-old underwent knee surgery after lifting the IPL trophy for the fifth time. Despite playing with a knee injury last season, Dhoni managed to score over 5000 runs at a strike rate of 135.92 in 250 IPL matches. No changes in content have been made. Although he batted at the No.8 slot due to fitness issues last season, he is expected to bat higher in the upcoming edition.
