Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals as Sajeevan Sajana hits a final-ball six in WPL 2024

In the opening game of the new Women's Premier League season, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by four wickets thanks to a final-ball six from debutant Sajeevan Sajana.

With five runs needed for victory, Sajana hit her first delivery over long-on to spark wild celebrations.

England's Alice Capsey scored 75 runs from 53 balls as Delhi posted a total of 171-5 in Bangalore.

But it was Nat Sciver-Brunt's figures of 2-33 and 19 runs that played a part in Mumbai's victory.

Yastika Bhatia's 57 and Harmanpreet Kaur's 55 off 34 balls were also crucial for defending WPL champions Mumbai. Sajana's heroics off Capsey's bowling after she had just come to the crease ensured a tense finish.

The 29-year-old is the captain of the Kerala Indian team and was signed by Mumbai in December at the lower end of the player auction price range.
