Omkar Salvi Joins RCB as Bowling Coach
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has named Omkar Salvi as their bowling coach, recognising his recent success in domestic cricket. Salvi, who led Mumbai to victory in the Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy last season, brings a wealth of experience to the IPL franchise. The announcement was made via RCB's official social media channels, highlighting his impressive achievements over the past year.
Salvi, currently serving as Mumbai's head coach, is set to join RCB after fulfilling his commitments in the ongoing domestic season. His duties include guiding Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, which resumes on January 23, as well as overseeing their performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. The franchise expressed excitement about his arrival, noting that his extensive domestic and IPL experience would be an asset for the team.
Known for his earlier role as an assistant coach with the Kolkata Knight Riders, this will mark Salvi’s second stint in the IPL. Despite a modest playing career—featuring just one List-A match for Railways in 2005—Salvi has emerged as a prominent coach on the domestic circuit. He is currently contracted with the Mumbai Cricket Association until March 2025.
Omkar is the younger brother of former Indian cricketer Avishkar Salvi, and his appointment adds another chapter to his growing legacy in cricket. For RCB, a team that has participated in the IPL since its inception in 2008 but is yet to secure a title, Salvi's expertise could provide the edge they need to break their championship drought.
As the 2025 IPL season approaches, all eyes will be on Salvi and his ability to enhance RCB's bowling lineup and guide them toward their elusive first trophy.
