Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged with three breaches of the ICC anti-corruption code. The 25-year-old left-arm spinner allegedly failed to report approaches to fix international matches and Lanka Premier League games in 2021. He is accused of not reporting these approaches to the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit and of deleting related messages, thereby obstructing the investigation.
The charges include:
- Article 2.4.4: Failing to report an approach to fix international matches without delay.
- Article 2.4.4: Failing to report an approach to fix the 2021 Lanka Premier League and to influence another player.
- Article 2.4.7: Obstructing the investigation by deleting messages related to the corrupt approaches.
Jayawickrama has been given 14 days, starting August 6, to respond to the charges. The ICC has stated that it will address the Lanka Premier League charges alongside the international match charges.
