A group of spectators heckled Sana Javed, the wife of former Pakistan cricket team captain Shoaib Malik, during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 match between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans on Monday.
Fans chanted the name of Indian tennis icon and Malik's ex-wife Sania Mirza as Malik scored a half-century for his franchise Karachi Kings. The couple had made the divorce statement just days after Malik announced his marriage to Javed in a social media post.
A section of the crowd taunted Javed by chanting Sania Mirza's name. Videos of Javed glaring at the crowd were posted by fans on social media. In one instance, however, she turned to the crowd and waved as the chants continued.
Malik’s half-century was not enough to secure a win for his team as Multan Sultans emerged victorious by 55 runs. The match saw a good knock by Reeza Hendricks and a three-wicket haul by Mohammad Ali.
The split between Malik and Mirza marks the end of a high-profile union that had generated huge interest among sports lovers from the two countries. Mirza’s family confirmed the news of their separation, urging fans and well-wishers to respect her need for privacy during this sensitive period.
