The future of KL Rahul with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) remains uncertain as franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka has reportedly called a press conference on August 28, where discussions about Rahul’s role in the team are expected.
As the buzz surrounding the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season intensifies, a key question is whether KL Rahul, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, will continue as LSG captain—or if he will even stay with the team. On August 26 (Monday), Rahul met with Goenka in Kolkata, fuelling speculation that a significant decision regarding his position might be on the horizon. Goenka is now reportedly set to address the media on August 28 (Wednesday), likely to reveal the outcome of that meeting and the plans for LSG moving forward.
A report by RevSportz suggests that Goenka’s upcoming press conference will clarify KL Rahul’s status with the franchise. This follows widespread reports indicating that the team might strip Rahul of the captaincy.
According to a report by news agency IANS, while KL Rahul is expected to remain with LSG, he may no longer lead the side. Instead, he could step down from the captaincy to focus more on his batting. The new captain is yet to be decided, with Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran emerging as the leading candidates for the role.
"Rahul is unlikely to captain the side in the upcoming edition as he wants to prioritise his batting. Goenka has full confidence in Rahul and intends to retain him as a player, but he will not be captaining the team. The franchise is still considering its options for the captaincy, with Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran in the running," an IANS source stated.
