Rain Disrupts Practice of India Team

Cricket fans in India face disappointment as inclement weather looms over Bengaluru ahead of the first Test match against New Zealand, starting October 16. The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall in the region over the next few days, continuing the city’s trend of a wet October. This morning, rain forced the cancellation of Team India's practice session, scheduled for 11:15 AM, leaving players, including stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, without crucial preparation time ahead of the series opener.

With a 70-90% chance of rain forecasted for the first two days of the Test, supporters are anxious about the possibility of a washout similar to the recent match in Kanpur against Bangladesh. In just the first two weeks of October, Bengaluru has already recorded 72mm of rainfall—three times more than September.

While the M Chinnaswamy Stadium boasts advanced drainage systems, the anticipated heavy precipitation may still disrupt the match. New Zealand enters the series seeking redemption after losses to Sri Lanka, with Tom Latham stepping in as Test captain in Tim Southee's absence. Meanwhile, India, fresh off a 2-0 series win against Bangladesh, eyes a potential World Test Championship final spot. However, rain delays could significantly hinder their points quest as they prepare to face an ever-challenging Kiwi squad. Cricket fans are left hoping for enough play amidst the gloomy forecasts.
