Ravi Shastri compared Rishabh Pant to a fool after a controversial decision review

Rishabh Pant was named the Player of the Match for his performance in the Indian Premier League 2024, where he scored 88 runs against the Gujarat Titans. The hosts won the game by 4 runs after scoring 224/4 in 20 overs. Pant faced 43 balls and hit 8 sixes and 5 fours in his entertaining knock.

He collaborated on a partnership that contributed to victory with Axar Patel, who accumulated 66 runs in 43 balls, aided by five fours and four sixes.

Gujarat had an opportunity for a comeback with Sai Sudharsan and David Miller scoring over fifty runs each. Despite this, they fell short of the target, finishing with a score of 220/8.

In the 18th over of GT's chase, Pant made an unfortunate decision in the use of DRS, which ultimately proved to be detrimental. Mukesh Kumar’s delivery hit the pad of Sai Kishore and went for a boundary. The delivery had clearly pitched outside the leg stump. Despite being aware of this, Pant requested a DRS, despite the on-field umpire declaring the batter not out.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was surprised to see Pant requesting the review: 

“Despite knowing the fact that Sai Kishore is not out, Pant took the DRS. Only a fool can do that. Technology is there to take out the flaws but not for the misuse.”

As predicted, the third umpire also upheld the on-field official's decision.
