Ravichandran Ashwin pokes fun at himself for taking nine wickets against England

“No improvement after all these years”

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 9 wickets in the fifth and final Test against England in Dharmsala. India emerged victorious as the hosts won the game by an innings and 64 runs, securing the series 4-1.

After taking 4 wickets in the first innings, Ashwin was even more effective in the second. He prevented the English batters from settling down, and his consistent strikes dashed their hopes of posing any challenge to the Rohit Sharma-led team.

Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 and took 9 wickets in his first game against the West Indies in Delhi.

In response to a post on X, the champion bowler made a self-deprecating comment:

“No improvement after all these years of playing the game. “Only my mom can say things like this.”

During the series against the Ben Stokes-led side, Ashwin's mother was hospitalised. He left the third Test midway through to be with her. He did not play on Day 3 of the Rajkot game but returned to be with his teammates on Day 4.

Ashwin also reached 500 Test wickets on the second day of the second match. He became the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to reach the milestone.
