Faf du Plessis will captain Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. His goal is to lead the franchise to their first IPL title. Despite having players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Yuvraj Singh, and Mitchell Starc, among others, RCB has yet to win the tournament.
Faf is excited to work with Kohli again, who has been the most successful batsman in the IPL. Virat has been out of action for some time after the birth of his second child, Akaay.
The former South Africa captain revealed that he and Virat are similar, so they connected instantly after their first meeting. Faf, who is 39, is one of the fittest cricketers around.
Faf du Plessis said in a Star Sports interview:
“Virta and I are similar in many things. We train hard to remain fit, look after ourselves and eat well to maintain our performances. I think that’s why connected easily.”
Faf praised Kohli for his longevity in the sport. 'He is an amazing player and he works hard. To play cricket for a long time, you have to be like him. The younger generation should follow his example. Many players are talented, but only a few can survive for a long time. Fitness plays an important role, Faf added.
In the previous season, Royal Challengers Bangalore finished sixth in the league. Moving forward, the team aims to improve their performance.
