Revised Schedule for India's Home Series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a revised schedule for India's home series against Bangladesh and England. One of the key changes is the relocation of the first T20I against Bangladesh from Dharamsala to Gwalior due to ongoing repair work in the dressing rooms at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium.
Originally scheduled for December 6 at the Dharamsala venue, the first T20I will now be held in Gwalior as part of a revamped schedule for India’s home season, which begins with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh on September 19. The venues for the two Tests against Bangladesh and the three Tests against New Zealand remain unchanged. However, minor adjustments have been made to some of the white-ball fixtures involving Bangladesh and England.
The BCCI explained the reason for moving the T20I from Dharamsala to Gwalior, stating, "The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on December 6, 2024, will now take place in Gwalior due to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms."
This match will be the inaugural international fixture at Gwalior’s new Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium and the city’s first international game since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010, where Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs.
In another significant update, the venues for the first and second T20Is against England have been swapped following a request from the Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
"The Board further announces a swap in the venues of the first and second T20Is against England. Chennai, originally scheduled to host the first T20I, will now host the second, while Kolkata will host the opening T20I instead of the second, as announced earlier. The dates for the first T20I (January 22, 2025) and the second T20I (January 25, 2025) remain the same. The venue change was necessitated following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal regarding their prior Republic Day commitments and obligations," the BCCI stated.
