Riyan Parag has taken the top spot from Virat Kohli and now holds the Orange Cap
On April 1 at the Wankhede Stadium, Riyan Parag, a young player for the Rajasthan Royals, scored an impressive 54 not out against Mumbai. This was his second consecutive fifty in the Indian Premier League 2024, and he has now taken the Orange Cap from his idol Virat Kohli to become the top run-scorer.
Parag has attributed his success to a few changes in his approach. In IPL 2023, he struggled with just 78 runs from 7 matches and received criticism for his below-par performance. However, he has silenced his doubters with his excellent performance in the new No.4 batting slot in the side:
“The number 4 batting slot allows me to be myself as I play similarly for Assam in domestic cricket. When Jos Buttler and R Ashwin got out, I thought of doing the same thing I would have done for my state. It was a calculative approach.”
Riyan admitted that he was not performing up to the standards in the previous seasons, and he realised that he wasn’t practising correctly for IPL.
Parag now has 181 runs from 3 matches at an average of 181.00.
