Robin Uthappa fully supports Gautam Gambhir
Former India batter Robin Uthappa has voiced his support for head coach Gautam Gambhir following India's disappointing ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka. In Gambhir's debut series as head coach, India lost the three-match ODI series 2-0, marking Sri Lanka's first bilateral series win over India in ODIs since 1997.
Despite India's struggles, including batting collapses in all three matches and the return of captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli, Uthappa defended Gambhir's leadership. Earlier in the tour, Gambhir's squad had dominated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series.
Reflecting on the series, Uthappa highlighted Gambhir's strengths as a leader. "Gautam has always excelled under pressure and is known for stepping up on big stages. I see those same qualities in him as a leader for this team," Uthappa told The Times of India.
Looking ahead, Uthappa expressed confidence in Gambhir's ability to foster a positive environment and lead effectively. "Gambhir seeks out significant opportunities and works to make the most of them. As a leader, I can attest to his ability to create a supportive environment that helps his players succeed. He's not only a great captain, but also an excellent tactician and a leader who instils confidence in his team," Uthappa added.
India’s next challenge will be a series against Bangladesh, featuring two Tests and three T20Is, scheduled for later this season.
