Rohit Sharma Closes In For No. 1 ODI Batting Ranking Spot

In the latest updates to the ICC ODI batting rankings, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has surged to second place. Rohit’s rise follows his impressive performance in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, during which he scored a total of 157 runs, making him the highest run-scorer of the series despite India losing 2-0. His contributions included two fifties and a strong strike rate of 141.44.

Shubman Gill, who previously held the second position, has now dropped to third, and Virat Kohli sits in fourth. The top Indian players are closely grouped, with only 19 rating points separating them. Rohit Sharma and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka are both emerging as serious contenders to No. 1.

In this series, Sri Lanka made headlines by finally defeating India in ODIs, marking their first victory over them in 27 years, prompting several players, including Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando, to see significant climbs in the rankings.

Additionally, the ODI rankings saw some movement among bowlers, with players like Nosthush Kenjige and Dunith Wellalage making headway.

In the Test rankings, South Africa's Temba Bavuma reached a career-high rating after scoring 86 and 15* against the West Indies. Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze also made gains following their performances in the corresponding Test match. Keshav Maharaj turned heads in the bowling rankings with a standout performance, earning Player of the Match honours and moving up to equal 21st place.

Overall, the latest rankings reflect dynamic changes as players continue to perform and challenge for top spots in both formats of the game.
